Beginner Track: Basic data modeling in Power BI (Alberto Ferrari – SQLBI)

You can solve any BI scenario in one of two ways: the right one and the wrong one. In most cases, the right one involves – first – building the correct data model and then author some very simple DAX code. The wrong one, on the other hand, is to use a data model that just “looks the most natural one” and then start writing crazy DAX code to compute your numbers. Most of our work – as consultants – is to start from wrong solutions and turn them into right ones.
In this session we will first understand the basics of data modeling, then we analyze several scenario where the data model matters, starting from a naïve solution, understanding where the complexity is and why the model is the wrong one, and then solving the scenario by means of building the correct model.
